The name of the place comes from two words of the people of the Majhi (a fisher tribe). It is made up of two words “Mun” and “Thali”. The former means a local alcoholic dish of Majhi people who are the locals of this place and the latter means a place. The word Munthali means a place where you can eat Mun. It was later named Manthali. Being a hill station, the climate is hot here. The best time to visit Manthali and other sites of Ramechhap is September to November. The transportation facilities of this place are better than of comparing of other villages or with other rural cities. Though it’s not highly developed is still not that bad if compared. There is one airport which is Ramechhap Airport that is in the municipality.
Ramechhap has ethnic groups of Brahmin, Chhetri, and Tamang. And it covers around 1,546 km area of Nepal. Ramechhap is one the place which is known for its natural beauty and its historical places. Natural resources like Sun Kosi, Tama Kosi, and Khimti, peaks like Pathibhara, Likhu Khola Glacier, and more. We also have cultural/religious heritages like Thodung Gumba, Panch Pokhari, Jatapokhari, Khau Gumba, and so on in Manthali. Manthali is a small town of Ramechhap district where we have a limited number of accommodations compared to the rest of the places of Nepal. So, before one travels they need to make up their minds as they won’t have as good services as you can get in other developed cities so it can be a bit difficult. Manthali is a popular place to visited for visitors who take a flight to Lukla.
Though the place doesn’t have a good number of hotels so the tourists need to book in advance through phone calls or the internet and secure the lodging. One can go to different places from manthali such as banepa chandeswori temple, Nagarkot to Dhulikhel hiking, Nagarkot view tower, kali temple, indreshwor Mahadev temple, the last resort and, many more. Manthali is the major trade hub of the Ramechhap and Dolakha district. There is a primary health center as the greatest governmental health institute of this municipality. There are many health posts and sub-health posts. In short, visiting Manthali can be a good option for everyone as it has got so many tourist spots nearby that one can explore the best views in the world. Though there are some issues regarding the infrastructure still it is one of the best tourist spots.
