Jirikhimti

Jirikhimti is a tiny yet trending hill station of Eastern Nepal located in Myanglung municipality at Tehrathum district. It is about 105 km from Dharan and 28 km away from Dhankuta & can be reached through the Koshi highway route. This town is situated at an altitude of about 1,800 meters and generally features cold and cloudy climate. Previously, Jirikhimti was a separate village development committee (VDC) in itself, but this hill town was merged with other VDCs into Myanglung municipality after the introduction of local level government. This small town also features a small but beautiful market that mostly has local made goods and handicrafts. These items are mostly preferred by the tourist as a token of love or memory of the trip.

The sensational cold and wet weather conditions are loved by the visitors, especially the ones from the Terai region and Indian border cities. This place is perfect for tourists to escape the hot and busy life of the cities and spend a bit of moment with natural bliss. The natural views of hills and valleys, dense forest covering whole hill, the experience of a rural home stay, etc. are one of the main reasons this hill station is gaining attention and attracting a lot of internal and international tourists. Another reason for the popularity of this place is because it falls on the route of several other beautiful destinations such as Myanglung, Hyathrung fall, tinjure, etc.

This hill station is mostly inhabited by Limbu, Magar, Gurung community and tourism is one of the important sources of revenue for the local people of this village along with agriculture and small-scale industries. According to the local authorities, special attention is being provided to this area in the field of agriculture and other small-scale businesses. An agricultural college has been established here with an aim of producing local agricultural technicians to ensure rural development. The people of this region are amiable and present a warm sense of hospitality.

In recent times, the idea of internal tourism and exploring nearby places has been increasing in Nepal and it is one of the beneficial factors for the people of this region. Jirikhimti is appearing to be one of the ideal destinations for the people of Eastern region as it is also nearby to other wonderful tourism area such as Gairigaun, Pilingdanda, etc. and all these places can be covered in a single trip. As Myanglung is just ahead of this town, most of the visitors prefer to stay there but Jirikhimti too has its own unique designs of small hotels and some homestay facilities.
