Rajbiraj is a medium-sized municipality in Nepal’s Province No. 2’s south-eastern area. Rajbiraj is the district headquarters of Saptari and the province’s No. 2’s eighth largest city. The city was the first township in Nepal to get urban planning in 1938, and it has been methodically constructed similar to the Indian town of Jaipur.Rajbiraj is a typical tourist town and a good starting point for exploring eastern Nepal’s fascinating sights. The city, on the other hand, offers a diverse range of activities. Rajbiraj serves as a central point for travelers in Eastern Nepal.Rajbiraj is named after the old Rajdevi temple, which was reconstructed in the 14th century by the Sens of Makawanpur. Rajbiraj has played an important role in Nepal’s modern history as a politically engaged town and as the birthplace of some of the country’s most well-known figures. The Nepalese city of Biratnagar provides the Rajbiraj’s primary commercial routes.

History of Rajbiraj: This city also has a long history, with remains and stone samples reaching back to the 8th century AD from the nearby Rajdevi Temple. The temple is known as Kushadhwaja’s family temple. The city is the historical twin city of Janakpur, which is also renowned as the seat of Kushadhwaja, King Janka’s brother, whose three daughters Mandavi, Urmila, and Shrutakirti were married to Bharata, Lakshmana, and Satrughna, respectively.After his brother won a war against Sankasya when Sankasya besieged Janakpur, Kushdhwaja governed the province through his ministers and moved to Sankadya. There were tiny temples dedicated to Mandavi, Urmila, and Shrutakirti around Rajbiraj, but these have since vanished.

Rajbiraj market: Cycle rickshaws and electric rickshaws are the finest ways to travel around the city. Short-distance auto rickshaws are also available, however they do not operate in the major market area.Each week, a variety of vibrant Hatiyaa Bazaars take place in various sections of town, with farmers from the rural hinterland setting up stalls to barter agricultural goods, spices, and handicrafts.

Historical and religious and tourist places in Rajbiraj: There are several holy Hindu temples to visit in Rajbiraj. The majority of the temples are over 200 years old. A 40-minute drive from the city lies the KoshiTappu Biodiversity Reserve, which is known for its wildlife, particularly for bird-watching lovers. There are also endangered wild buffaloes known as “Arna” in Nepali.Rajdevi Temple is a famous 8th century Hindu temple located on the city’s eastern outskirts and is one of Rajbiraj’s most well-known monuments. It is dedicated to Rajdevi, a Hindu goddess. The current edifice was erected between 1990 and 1990, and the temple is an important icon for Hindus. Thousands of goats are slaughtered here during Dashain, and the shrine attracts thousands of pilgrims each year.

Festivals celebrated in Rajbiraj: The major Hindu festivals of VijayaDashami, Dipawali, Chhath, Holi, SamaChakeva, and Vishwakarma Puja are among the most important religious events. The festivals of Chhath and Holi are widely observed, with a carnival-like atmosphere. The manner these events are celebrated is something that the locals take pleasure in.

Popular sports in the city: The most popular sports in the city among the younger age are Kabaadi and Cricket. There are three local stadiums in the city. The multifunctional stadium RajbirajRangasala in the capital conducts the majority of the sporting events. Cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, kabaddi, and badminton are some of the most popular sports. The most active cricket clubs are Freedom Cricket Club and Rajdevi Cricket Academy.

Educational Institutions in the city: Rajbiraj has a well-developed educational system. There are several universities and institutions that satisfy the needs of not only the city, but also the area and country. Several educational institutes for pre-primary, primary, secondary, high-secondary, senior-secondary, graduate, and post-graduate courses are located there.Rajbiraj is a major educational center in Nepal’s Eastern Region. The city’s Sai Krishna Medical College & Hospital (SKMCH), nursing institutions, and +2 colleges are attracting students from neighboring districts and Nepal’s Eastern Region.

Primary food in Rajbiraj: Rice, dal, and curry are the region’s primary foods. People make a variety of fried veggies as well as other unique dishes for festive occasions. In Rajbiraj, fish is one of the most common protein sources.

Transportation: Rajbiraj is one of the cities in Nepal connected by the Hulaki Rajmarga, commonly known as the East West Highway. The National Highway and Sub Highway link it to other Nepalese cities. Buses are a popular method of intercity passenger transportation. Aside from City Rickshaws and Magic (small vehicles), another major mode of transportation in local regions is the Rickshaw.Rajbiraj is home to one of Nepal’s oldest airports, the Rajbiraj Airport, which opened in 1959.

Moreover, Rajbiraj is one of the best city in the Eastern Nepal with a lot of historical and religious importances and the city Rajbiraj is also called the pride of Terai region after Janakpur.
